Nestled in the summer gardens of The Dorchester, Cake & Flowers is a café that you simply must visit. Here’s what to order — and what to wear — to London’s chic’est garden café.

There’s something about summer in Mayfair — a lightness in the air, a sweetness in the breeze — and no spot captures it quite like Cake & Flowers. This darling corner of The Dorchester, London’s grande dame of hotels, is now home to an enchanting boutique café where haute patisserie and floral design meet in divine union.

Stepping inside:

the scent of fresh roses greets you before the visual spectacle does — and yet, the visuals are nothing short of a love letter to beauty. Think lemon-drop yellows, lavender gift boxes, and marbled interiors gilded in gold. The floral installations are real, seasonal, and fragrant, transporting you straight to the South of France via Park Lane.

The view:

From my table, surrounded by blooms and soft light, I sipped a cocktail while enjoying their signature chocolate cake — a flawless balance of richness and elegance. It’s the kind of moment you romanticise later. A perfect location for a girly catch-up, a birthday toast, or a soft morning of solo indulgence, this café is quietly theatrical — aesthetic but not contrived, indulgent but not overstated.

The menu:

Created by executive pastry chef Michael Kwan and floral designer Philip Hammond, Cake & Flowers is more than just a café — it’s an experience, a gift in itself. Kwan’s patisserie is artful, echoing the delicate details of a couture dress, while Hammond’s blooms feel thoughtfully composed, not merely arranged. The result? A setting that is almost too beautiful to leave, especially when viewed through the soft golden filter of a summer afternoon.

What to wear, order & what it's perfect for...

A butter-yellow linen dress, vintage sunglasses, and soft curls. (Bonus points for florals that mirror the interiors.)

What to order: The signature chocolate cake, a pastel mocktail, and — if you’re celebrating — one of the bespoke takeaway cakes, elegantly boxed in the now-iconic purple and gold.

Perfect for: A chic birthday brunch, a content-worthy girly catch-up, or simply a soft, golden afternoon to romanticise your own life.
